Bollywood central is becoming the passage to gay India.

When the poster for the Indian film ”Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyun” ricocheted around the web last summer, it constituted a cultural sea change. Though by Bollywood standards the image was minimalist – no manic chorus line, no candy colors – it featured two topless men passionatly embracing.

The premiere was delayed, and actor Kapil Sharma recieved death threats, but this Indian answer to ”Brokeback Mountain” would have been unthinkable until recently. And while the cultural revolution may be moving slowly in the hinterland, the city of Mumbai has emerged as one of the most intriguing new gay destinations.

Already the country´s economic capital, Mumbai is home to flashy Bollywood, the country´s IT industry, and a cosmopolitan population. ”People here tend to mind their own business,” says Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil, India´s only openly gay prince, and a major supporter of ”Dunno Y…” ”And gay life is evolving quickly in Mumbai. There are gay rights organizations, an evolving party scene, and a sophisticated intellectual scene.” Delhi´s high court decriminalized homosexuality in Juyl 2009, and according to GayBombay.org, one of the city´s cultural anchors, there are now about 750 000 gay men in Mumbai – a conservative estimate given the city´s population of around 15 million.

How to access the nascent but percolating scene? Start with an increasingly spirited mass media. Prince Manvendra has launced two magazines: ”Bombay Dost”, emphasizing gay empowerment, and ”Fun”, which he says focuses on ’gadgets, grooming, and psycological counseling.’ Also featured: ’the sensuos modell of the month.’

But websites remain at the centre of queer life in Mumbai. Gay Bombay, founded in 2001, bills itself as the largest LGBT Yahoo! Group in the world, throwing parties and providing info on legal issues, health, and sex. SalvationStar.com, which targets a younger audience, sponsors it´s own club nights, including a Friday night Supa´Party at Dios Lounge, with a large dancefloor, open air terraces, and revolving DJs.

Perhaps the biggest sign of change is that now Mumbai´s gay life is extending beyond the Internet. Voodoo (VoodooIndia.com) is one of the few clubs to advertise a mixed night, every Saturday, and its exurberant crowd makes up for the cramped, sweaty space. Then there is Azaad Bazaar (AzaadBazaar.com), recently opened in the stylish Bandra shopping district, which bills itself as India´s first LGBT pride shop. The boutique stocks pride mugs and T-shirts bearing slogans like ’PINK SHEEP OF THE FAMILY’ and ’YOUR HANDCUFFS OR MINE?’ One of the most popular tees features the saying ’LOVE IS LOVE’. Oras Mohandas Gandhi put it, ”A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.”

Why don´t they just air the UK version?

I´m a huge fan of the UK TV series “Skins” about a group of young partyloving, wild acting british teens. And now MTV is airing an remake of the show – and there are NO upside to it. Usually when a british hip show gets an american remake they recast the characters with more TV friendly faces. This isn´t the case here. And the fact that the US version is censored and still getting called kiddie porn baffles me.

Anyway – I´m going to give the remake a few more episodes, but I´m not impressed.

One of my all time favourites…

I don´t know what it is, but the movie The Neverending Story (1984), is one of my all time favourite movies. I watched it as a child, and saw it again this Christmas and got he same warm, fuzzy feeling inside. And that’s kind of weird, because the acting isn´t all that good – child actors is something completely different nowadays. And the special effects are like they used to be in the eighties!

But on the other hand, the story is cute, and it brings me back 🙂

Eric Braeden talks back.

Iconic daytime actor Eric Braeden did not take to kindly to being called ‘a D-bag’ by HIMYM star Neil Patrick Harris on Friday. Following Harris’ Twitter attack, Braeden shot back with some well chosen words of this own, saying that Harris “needs to be spanked” and that he could “get his teeth knocked in for that kind of nonsense.”

“It was utterly inappropriate. He’s a little boy,” Braeden tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The Young and Restless star said he would not administer any beating or spankings to Harris.

“I need a worthy adversary,” he says. “I don’t even know who this fellow is.”

Harris had objected to Braeden dropping out of an episode of “How I Met Your Mother” at the last minute because the part was not “substantial” enough – and then wrote the offensive Tweet. Harris did apologize, Tweeting later:

“Now I feel bad for the D-bag comment. Don’t know the guy personally. I’m just fiercely protective of our show.”

But the damage was done.

“I don’t have a Twitter thing,” says Braeden. “But you have to be careful in this world.”

Braeden did confirm he dropped out of the program because he was “exhausted” due to work and recent hip surgery and because the part only required two lines – which he found out about at the last minute.

“Two lines, I don’t do that for anyone,” he says.

But in the end he called for peace on Earth.

“It’s Christmas time and I will forgive him for my verbal transgressions,” he says.

Neil P. Harris tweets that Eric Braeden is a dirtbag.

The Young and the Restless actor Eric Braeden pulled out of a How I Met Your Mother guest starring role last minute – and Neil Patrick Harris is none too pleased.

“Eric Braeden is a D-Bag,” Harris fumed on Twitter Friday. “The actor, (Robin’s dad) agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn’t ‘substantial’ enough. We’ve recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part ‘substantial’. Super excited to welcome him to the family!”

Braeden appeared in a 2008 episode as Robin Scherbatsky’s (played by Cobie Smulders) father.

That´s what you get for marrying your sister!

It was short-lived, the marriage between actor Michael C. Hall and actress Jennifer Carpenter. They´ve been married for about 2 years, but have been separated for some time, and now filed for divorce.

But, hey, that´s what you get for marrying your sister. Or at least a co-worker who plays your sister.

Spokespersons for both say it´s been a peaceful break. So I guess Dexter won´t have to kill off his sister, at least not yet.

Burn, baby, Burn!

The show Burn Notice, about Michael Weston, an ex-CIA agent who gets burned/fired is now in it´s 4th season. It´s more exciting than ever!

It had its strongest numbers of the fall season Thursday night.

The USA drama delivered 4.2 million viewers, up 17% from last week, with 2 million of those in the adult demographic.

The performance leads into next week’s two-hour fourth season finale.
