Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre, supposedly promised the United States not to put pressure on them concerning the controversial Guantanamo Bay Prison Camp.
In a report leaked through Wikileaks the american ambassador states that Støre made it clear in a meeting between the two that the Norwegian government was not interested in any conflict with the united states, and would not out any kind of political pressure for the closure of Guantanamo Bay – despite the opinion of coalition partner SV and local Amnesty International groups.
Ex director of the Norwegian Homeland Security agency (PST, Politiets Sikkerhetstjeneste, The Police Security Services), Jørn Holme, has said that suspected terrorist, Arfan Bhatti, is only a threat to national security when he is single and in a bad mood.
Arfan Bhatti is one of a few suspected terrorists living in Norway, which are protected by the slow-moving norwegian legal system. Bhatti is among other things convicted of four counts of attempted murder, and the shooting towards a synagogue in Oslo.
It´s amazing how naive the norwegian government is, I´m no fan of “big brother”, but at least I see that there’s something going on.
I really wish Norway had some juicier secrets. Nothing that have come out of the leaks about Norway have been real secrets.
